Originally released in 2019, The Isle of Cats is a polyomino tile placement game with a unique pirate/feline theme. We've all been waiting on a reprint of the game, which has pushed this title to the top five this month, as the restock finally arrives in stores.

In the game, players are citizens of Squalls End, embarking on a rescue mission to The Isle of Cats. Players must rescue as many cats as possible before the evil Lord Vesh arrives. Each cat is represented by a unique polyomino tile and belongs to a specific family, you must find a way to make them all fit on your boat while keeping families together. Each turn you will also need to manage your resources as you choose from a variety of actions, including exploring the island by drafting cards, rescuing cats by placing cat tiles, finding treasures, befriending Oshax, and studying ancient lessons. There are more than 30 lessons in the game, which define how each player will score points at game's end.

If you can't get enough of the base game, numerous expansions hit the shelves on the same date:

The Boat Pack Expansion that adds more boats for you to use when rescuing cats.

The Kittens + Beasts Expansion that adds two new modules with all new types of cats and introduces Beasts to the game.

What could be more fun than an Oceans Eleven-style heist? How about a showdown between two crews of thieves to see who can come out on top as the most successful mastermind crew of Europe? That's the setup to the two player drafting game Caper: Europe. Players take turns sending thieves under their control to famous locations as they vie for control by using special card powers. But, each thief has some tricky skills up their sleeves, which can be enhanced by adding gear to them. Things get even stickier because controlling locations isn't everything, because priceless treasures await the thief who is clever enough to snatch them first.

Players win by scoring the most points by collecting stolen goods, winning locations, and equipping thieves with their preferred gear. After six rounds, the mastermind with the most points is declared the winner.

2. Now or Never

Now or Never Board Game Setup

Number of Players 1-4
Playtime 90-180 Min
Suggested Ages 13+
Designer(s) Ryan Laukat
Publisher Red Raven Games

Designer Ryan Laukat is on a roll after the release of the epic, open-world adventure game Sleeping Gods earlier this year. His latest release is Now or Never, the third instalment in the Arzium storybook trilogy, following Above and Below and Near and Far.

In Now or Never, up to four players are competing to rebuild their ancestral village and guide the rest of the villagers on their long journey home. However, things are complicated by creatures that have come out of a nearby crashed meteorite. Although they may have lost much of their strength, many of them remain, and you must fight them off to protect the unarmed traveling villagers.

There are two modes of play: standard and story, expanding the replayability options of the game. When you play in story mode, you read from a storybook as you explore, making choices and learning more about the characters and the world they inhabit. Each character has their own set of unique stories, specific to the locations they explore and diverse in perspective, plot, and motivations, allowing players to choose what direction your own story will take.

1. Three Sisters

Three Sisters Board Game Setup

Number of Players 1-4
Playtime 30-60 Min
Suggested Ages 14+
Designer(s) Ben Pinchback, Matt Riddle
Publisher 25th Century

There has been no shortage of roll and write board games in the past year. We absolutely love the category, but with so many games to choose from, it can be hard to find a really solid one. Fleet: The Dice Game is one of the standout games in this category, we love it because it's filled with pure combo-stacking joy. Three Sisters is the spiritual follow up to Fleet: The Dice Game, with the same design team bringing more combos and throwing in a rondel mechanism for good measure.

Playable as a solo experience or with up to four players, Three Sisters is based on the concept of companion planting, with the 'Three Sisters' being corn, pumpkins, and beans. Players have eight rounds to most effectively manage their backyard gardens, represented on two personal player sheets, to score the most points. Each turn, the active player will roll dice, placing them on the action rondel based upon their numbers. All players will then draft the dice and take the actions associated to the placement of the dice on the rondel. Actions vary from planting new crops, to watering existing crops, visiting the shed for bonus actions, foraging fruits for bonus points, and more. A deeply satisfying experience of stacking and combo-ing your scoring opportunities, Three Sisters is a can't miss!
